Yes. AI Text Summarizer is free to use. OpenAI and Gemini models require your own API key and follow provider pricing. Chrome AI uses Gemini Nano built into Chrome, so no API key is needed.

Currently, this is only supported with OpenAI and Gemini models, and only in Side Panel chat mode.

• –Click + to attach up to 5 PDF files.
• –Each file can be up to 20MB.
• –Chrome AI does not support PDF upload or parsing.

Chrome AI uses Gemini Nano through Chrome's local Prompt API, so it has stricter limits than cloud models.

• –No Search Mode and no PDF uploads: no built-in web search, and it cannot upload or parse PDF files.
• –Less stable output: it may forget instructions, repeat text, or hallucinate.
• –Better alternative: if you need stronger reasoning, web search, or PDF chat, use OpenAI or Gemini models.

Yes. Your API key and settings stay in your browser's local storage. Summary content is sent directly to the AI provider you choose, and we do not collect it.

GPT-5.6 family models (gpt-5.6-sol, gpt-5.6-terra, and gpt-5.6-luna) may still be in limited preview and are not yet available to every OpenAI API account. If you see a model is in limited preview or not available on this account error, your account does not currently have access to that model. OpenAI expects broader availability in the coming weeks; until then, use gpt-5.5.
